Katrín Elvarsdóttir

“I’m interested in all forms of contemporary photography, except for commercial photography, with a preference on photobook projects and exhibitions.”

Katrín Elvarsdóttir is a photographic artist and curator living in Reykjavík, Iceland. Katrín received a BFA from The Art Institute of Boston, Massachusetts in 1993 and a BA in French from the University of Iceland in 1988. She has held many solo shows in Iceland and abroad, including The Search For Truth at BERG Contemporary, 2018, Vanished Summer at Deborah Berke in New York, 2014, and Nowhereland at Reykjavík Art Museum, 2010.

Katrín has been nominated for several awards, including the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize in 2009 and The EIKON Award in Vienna 2017. She has worked as an independent curator for various museums and institutions, such as The National Museum of Iceland, The Reykjavik Museum of Photography, The Nordic House in Reykjavik, Gallery Image in Aarhus and Photographic Center North in Oulu. In recent years, Katrín has taught art and photography at The Iceland University of The Arts, The Reykjavik School of Visual Arts and The Photography School in Reykjavik.

Katrín is the Co-Director of The Icelandic Photography Festival, an international photo festival held in January every other year. The festival’s program includes exhibitions with international as well as local artists, lectures, photobook events and a portfolio review. The next edition takes place in 2022.
